1000+ Months Night: Laylat Al-Qadr

Laylat Al-Qadr In Quran

Verily! We have sent it (this Quran) down in the night of Al-Qadr , And what will make you know what the night of Al-Qadr (Decree) is? The night of Al-Qadr is better than a thousand months. Therein descend the angels and the Ruh by Allahs Permission with all Decrees, Peace! (All that night, there is Peace and Goodness from Allah to His believing slaves) until the appearance of dawn.
(Al-Qadr 97:1-5)

Thousand+ (1000+) Months

The night of Al-Qadr is better than a thousand months
(Al-Qadr 97:3).

The Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم‎) was shown the lifespans of the people (who had gone) before him, or what Allah willed of that, and it was as if the lives of the people of his community had become too short for them to be able to do as many good actions as others before them had been able to do with their long lives, so Allah gave him Laylat al-Qadr, which is better than a thousand months.
(Sunan Ibn Majah 19.6.16)

Thousand (1000) months is equivalent of:
  • Eighty three (83) years and four (4) months.
  • Thirty thousand (30,000) days.
  • Seven hundred twenty thousand (7,20,000) hours.
  • It is longer than most of us whole life.

When is Laylatul Qadr?

Narrated by Aishah (رضي الله عنها‎) Mohammed (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم‎) says,
Search for the Night of Qadr in the odd nights of the last ten days of Ramadaan.
(Bukhari 3:32:234)

So the particular date of Laylatul Qadr is unknown it could be 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th or 29th.

Narrated Ibn Umar (رضي الله عنها‎) Some men amongst the companions of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم‎) were shown in their dreams that the night of Qadr was in the last seven nights of Ramadan.

Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم‎) said,
It seems that all your dreams agree that (the Night of Qadr) is in the last seven nights, and whoever wants to search for it (i.e. the Night of Qadr) should search in the last seven (nights of Ramadan).
(Bukhari 3:32:232)

Narrated Aisha (رضي الله عنها‎) Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم‎) said,

(Bukhari 3:32:237)

Narrated Ibn Abbas (رضي الله عنها‎) The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم‎) said,

(Bukhari 3:32:238)

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas (رضي الله عنها‎) Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم‎) said,
The Night of Qadr is in the last ten nights of the month (Ramadan), either on the first nine or in the last (remaining) seven nights (of Ramadan).
Ibn 'Abbas (رضي الله عنها‎) added,
Search for it on the twenty-fourth (of Ramadan).
(Bukhari 3:32:239)

The Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم‎) were shown Laylat al-Qadr in their sleep during the last seven days. The Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم‎) said,

The Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم‎) said,
Search for Laylat al-Qadr in the last ten days of Ramadan.
(Sunan Ibn Majah 19:6:11)

Forget When is Laylatul Qadr!

The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم‎) came out to inform us about the Night of Qadr but two Muslims were quarreling with each other. So, the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم‎) said,

I came out to inform you about the Night of Qadr but such-and-such persons were quarreling, so the news about it had been taken away; yet that might be for your own good, so search for it on the 29th, 27th and 25th of Ramadan.
(Bukhari 3:32:240)

Another Hadit
The Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم‎) came out with his companions in Ramadan and said,
I was shown a certain night in Ramadan and then two men abused each other and it was taken away. Look for it on the ninth and the seventh and the fifth.
(Sunan Ibn Majah 19:6:14)

Quran Revealed

Quran Revealed

We sent it (Quran) down during a Blessed Night: for We (ever) wish to warn (against Evil). In the (Night) is made distinct every affair of wisdom, By command, from Our Presence. For We (ever) send (revelations), As Mercy from thy Lord: for He hears and knows (all things).
(Ad-Dukhan 44:3-6)

The Night of Forgiven Sin

The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم‎) said,
Whoever fasted the month of Ramadan out of sincere Faith (i.e. belief) and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his past sins will be forgiven, and whoever stood for the prayers in the night of Qadr out of sincere Faith and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his previous sins will be forgiven.
(Bukhari 3:32:231)

Signs of Laylatul Qadr

Narrated Abu Said Al-Khudri (رضي الله عنها‎) Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم‎) used to practice Itikaf (in the mosque) in the middle third of Ramadan and after passing the twenty nights he used to go back to his house on the 21st, and the people who were in Itikaf with him also used to go back to their houses. Once in Ramadan, in which he practiced Itikaf, he established the night prayers at the night in which he used to return home, and then He addressed the people and ordered them whatever Allah wished him to order and said,
I used to practice Itikaf for these ten days so whoever was in Itikaf with me should stay at his place of seclusion. I have verily been shown (the date of) this Night (of Qadr) but I have forgotten it. So search for it in the odd nights of the last ten days (of this month). I also saw myself (in the dream) prostrating in mud and water.
On the night of the 21st, the sky was covered with clouds and it rained, and the rain-water started leaking through the roof of the mosque at the praying place of the Prophet . I saw with my own eyes the Prophet at the completion of the morning prayer leaving with his face covered with mud and water.
(Bukhari 3:32:235)

Laylatul-Qadr-rain-water

Narrated Abu Salama (رضي الله عنها‎) I asked Abu Sa'id (رضي الله عنها‎) and he was a friend of mine, (about the Night of Qadr) and he said,
We practiced Itikaf (seclusion in the mosque) in the middle third of the month of Ramadan with the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم‎). In the morning of the 20th of Ramadan, the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم‎) came and addressed us and said,
I was informed of (the date of the Night of Qadr) but I was caused to forget it; so search for it in the odd nights of the last ten nights of the month of Ramadan. (In the dream) I saw myself prostrating in mud and water (as a sign).
So, whoever was in l'tikaf with me should return to it with me (for another 10-day's period)', and we returned. At that time there was no sign of clouds in the sky but suddenly a cloud came and it rained till rain-water started leaking through the roof of the mosque which was made of date-palm leaf stalks. Then the prayer was established and I saw Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم‎) prostrating in mud and water and I saw the traces of mud on his forehead."
(Bukhari 3:32:233)

Ahadith on signs of Laylatul-Qadr. Allaah's Messenger (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم‎) described the morning after Lailatul-Qadr, so that the Muslim may know which day it is. From Ubayy (رضي الله عنها‎) who said,
That He (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم‎) said,
On the morning following Laylatul-Qadr the sun rises not having any rays, as if it were a brass dish, until it rises up.
(Muslim, Abu Dawud, Tirmithi and Ibn Majah)

Abu Hurairah (رضي الله عنها‎) said,
We were discussing Laylatul-Qadr in the presence of Allah's Messenger (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) so He said,
Which of you remembers the night when the moon arose and was like half a plate.
(Muslim)

Ibn 'Abbaas (رضي الله عنها‎), said,
Allaah's Messenger (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم‎) said,
Lailatul-Qadr is calm and pleasant, neither hot nor cold, the sun arises on its morning being feeble and red.
(At Tayaalisee, Ibn Khuzaimah and Al-Bazzaar)

Narrated by Ubayy Ibn Ka'b
Zirr Ibn Hubaysh reported
I thus asked Ubayy Ibn Ka'b
Your brother (in faith) Ibn Mas'ud says
He who stands (for the night prayer) throughout the year will find Lailatul Qadr.
Thereupon he said
May Allah have mercy upon him. (He said these words) with the intention that people might not rely only (on one night), whereas he knew that it (Lailatul Qadr) was in the month of Ramadhan and it was the 27th night.
I said to him:
AbulMundhir, on what grounds do you say that?
Thereupon he said
By the indication or by the sign which the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم‎) gave us, and that is that on that day the Sun would rise without having any ray in it.
(Muslim)

sun-rise-without-ray-laylatul-qadr

It was narrated by Abu Salama (رضي الله عنها‎)
Once I went to Abu Sayeed Al-Kudri (رضي الله عنها‎) and asked him
Won't you come with us to the date palm trees to have a talk?
So Abu Said replied
Once Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم‎) performed Iktikaaf on the first 10 days of the month of Ramadhan and we did the same with him. Gabriel came to him and said
The night you are looking for is ahead of you. So the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم‎) performed the Iktikaaf in the middle (second) 10 days of the month of Ramadhan and we too performed Iktikaaf with him.. Gabriel came to him and said,
The night which you are looking for is ahead of you. On the morning of the 20th Ramadhan, the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم‎) delivered a sermon saying
Whoever has performed Iktikaaf with me should continue it. I have been shown the Night of 'Qadr', but have forgotten the date, but it is in the odd nights of the last 10 nights. I saw in my dream that I was prostrating in mud and water. In those days the roof of the mosque was made of branches of date palm trees. At the same time the sky was clear and no cloud visible, but suddenly a cloud came and it rained. The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم‎) led us in the prayer and I saw the traces of mud on the forehead and the nose of Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم‎). So it was the confirmation of that dream." (Bukhari 1:12:777)

Ubaadah bin Saamit (رضي الله عنها‎) reports
That he asked the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم‎) about "Laylatul Qadr". He (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم‎) replied:
It is in Ramadhan, during the last ten days, on the unevenly numbered nights, either the 21st 23rd, 25th, 27th, 29th or the last night of Ramadhan. Whosoever stands in "Ibaadah" on this night, with sincere faith and with genuine hopes of gaining reward, his previous sins will be forgiven. Among the signs of this night is that it is a serene, quiet, shining night, neither hot, nor cold but temperate as if a moon is shining clear, and no meteors are shot at the "Shayateen" on that night; it lasts until the break of the dawn. Another sign is that at morn, the Sun rises without any radiant beams of light, appearing rather like the moon in it's fullness. On that day, Allah prohibits the "Shayateen" from rising up with the Sun.

From amongst the signs of Laylatul-Qadar is that it is a calm night and the believer's heart is delighted and at peace with it, and he becomes active in doing good actions, and the sun on the following morning rises clearly without any rays. Deeds of Shab-E-Qadr (Dos)

It is recommended to pray, read Quran with understanding and reflecting on each verses, and supplicate a lot during this night.

Recommended Dua of Laylatul Kadr

Reported from our mother Aishah (رضي الله عنها‎), that she said
O Messenger (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم‎) of Allah! What if I knew which night Lailatul-Qadr was, then what should I say in it?"
He (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم‎) said
Say اللهم إنك عفو تحب العفو فاعفُ عني
Transliteration: Allahumma innaka 'affuwwun tuhibbul 'afwa fa'fu 'annee.
Meaning: O Allaah You are The One Who pardons greatly, and loves to pardon, so pardon me." (at-Tirmithi and Ibn Majah)

Focusing on Worshiping for Thanking Allah (سبحان و تعالى)

The best way worshiping for thanking Allah (سبحان و تعالى) is to say 2 rakat Salat-us-Shukr (Prayer of Thanks).

ya-Allah-thank-you-laylatul-qadr

Remain in I’tikaf

I’tikaf is practice consisting of a certain period of staying in the mosque in the month of Ramadan. Oneself remain in I’tikaf for extra worship for Allah and stay away from the worldly affair. Who remain in i’tikaf they cannot go outside the mosque except in the case of emergencies. And performing various types of dikir, offering extra salat (namaz), recitation Holy Quran and etc.

Do Much Supererogatory Prayers (Nafil)

Two Rakat after performing Wudu (Ablution) tahiyatul wudu salah Tahajjud Salaatul Tasbih Ishraq salah, Chasht salah Awabeen salah salatul hajat

Benefit of Teciting The Quran

Get ten rewards for each letter for reciting from the Qur’an. Get more benefits on ramdan and extra for laytatul Qadr The Qur’an will be a proof for us on the Day of Judgment It will be raised our status in this life. It determined our position in Paradise by the amount of Qur’an we memorize in this life. The Quran will lead us to the Paradise

Reflect on The Meaning of The Quran

Choose any Surah and read their translation and also read out Tafseer. Then think deeply about Surah meaning. And how it affects you on a personal level.

Try to Wipe Out Your Sins

Try to make your prayer longer as possible. Make your prayer longer, deeper and meaningful. Abu Huraira (رضي الله عنها‎) narrated that the Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم‎) said
Whoever stands (in prayer) in Laylatul Qadr while nourishing his faith with self-evaluation, expecting the reward from Allah will have all of his previous sins forgiven.
(Bukhari, Muslim)

Make Much Dua

Abu Huraira (رضي الله عنها‎) narrated that the Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم‎) said
Duas of three persons are not refused

  • A fasting man when breaking the fast
  • A just ruler
  • An oppressed person,

(Tirmidhi)

So ask Dua from Allah (سبحان و تعالى) as much as possible on Laylatul Qadr night.

Make Du’a Long, Sincere and Deep

One of the best times to do Dua is during the last part of the night.

Abu Huraira (رضي الله عنها‎) related that the Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم‎) said
When the last one-third of the night remains, our Lord, the Glorious One descends towards the heaven of the earth and proclaims
Who is that who supplicates for Me, and I grant his supplication?
Who is that who begs Me for anything and I grant it to him?
And who is that who seeks My forgiveness, and I forgive him?
(Bukhari, Muslim)

That means for instance, waking up one hour before Suhoor time to ask Allah (سبحان و تعالى) for anything and everything you want that is Halal. This can be done using the Duas of the Sunnah, with sincerity and conviction.

Try to Read Book on The Sirat (Life) of Prophet Mohammed (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم‎)

Read about the Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم‎) life, which can increase your love for him and Islam by seeing how much he struggled for Allah (سبحان و تعالى) sake. It may inspire you to push yourself even harder during these last ten nights.

Muhammad-SW-laylatul-qadr

Plan for Making Life Change

Once you have done a self-evaluation, you can plan on where you want to go, at least in the next 12 months. Laylatul Qadr is a great night to be thinking about this (without taking away from your worship). You may choose to dedicate one night of power for evaluation and one night for planning for the next year.

Avoid to do at Shab-e-Qadr (Don’ts)

Eating Publicly

Smoke, drink, chew gum or eat in public during daylight hours.

Tight Fitting Clothes

Wear revealing or tight clothes in public at any time of day or night. Try to avoid to for whole life.

Don’t swear

Blasphemy is frowned upon at the best of times, but during the Holy Month of Ramadan and also on Laylatul Qadr it’s particulaAvoid to dorly offensive.

Negative Attitude

Don’t be vulgar, rude or swear. Don't be irritable. Don't be boastful or arrogant.

Stop Your Journey at Shab-e-Qadr

Ziyad related to me from Malik from Abu'n Nadr, the mawla of Umar ibn Ubaydullah, that Abdullah ibn Unays al-Juhani said to the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم‎), may Allah bless him and grant him peace, "Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم‎), I am a man whose house is a long way away. Tell me one night so that I can stop my journey for it." The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "Stop on the twenty-third night of Ramadan." (Sunan Ibn Majah 19:6:13)

Some Destructed People Who Get Ramadan Especially Shab-e-Qadr

On the authority of Kaab Ibn Ujrah (رضي الله عنها‎) it is related that

The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم‎) said, 'Come near to the mimbar'.

And we came near the mimbar.

When He (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم‎) climbed the first step of the mimbar, He (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم‎) said 'Ameen',

When He (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم‎) ascended the second step, He (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم‎) said 'Ameen',

When He (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم‎) climbed the third step, He (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم‎) said 'Ameen'

When He (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم‎) came down,

We said 'O Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم‎), we have heard from you today something which we never heard before'

He (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم‎) said When I climbed the first step,

The angel Jibraeel (عليه والسلام) appeared before me and said 'Destruction to him who found the blessed month of Ramadhan and let it pass by without gaining forgiveness'

Upon that I said ‘Ameen’.

When I climbed the second step, he said, 'Destruction to him before whom thy name is taken and then he does not make Dua for Allah’s blessing on me (by saying durood, for example sallahu alayhi wa sallam صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم‎).'

I replied ‘Ameen’.

When I climbed the third step, he said 'Destruction unto him in whose lifetime both his parents or either one of them reaches old age, and (through failure to serve them) he is not allowed to enter Jannah'.

I said ‘Ameen’.
